How can I get video codec installed on my computer to view video files off my camcorder onto my computer?

I have just borrowed my sister’s Jazz HDV178 High Definition camcorder and tried to view the video files on the camcorder on my PC but to my surprise all I get is sound,no video, my windows media player searches for codec but a message appears and says”error loading video codec”and the camcorder came without an installation CD and was wondering if there is another way to get the installation CD for free or if there is another way to get video codec installed on my computer. please help asap! need to send out a video file via e-mail before June 28th,2009!

You don’t need a codec to email a video file – it’s just a file. You need the codec to play it though i.e. whoever gets the email may need to do something. Rugrazzzz is absolutely right, but if you’re just going to play the video you could use the VLC player instead.
